We all know how important birthday parties are to a child, and all parents want to make sure that their child has an extra special day. But how do you achieve that? One word: Planning. It’s essential to plan out kids’ birthday parties just like you would any other important celebration in your life, such as a wedding, christening or graduation party. In your child’s eyes, their big day is just as important as the aforementioned celebrations, if not more so. So, mom and dad, you can’t afford to mess this up! To make sure you don’t forget anything, the team at Oaktree Play Centre has listed some of the main factors you need to consider when planning birthday parties below.
Birthday Parties: Got All of the Bases Covered?
Realizing you’ve forgotten something important just a few hours before your kid’s party is not a situation you want to find yourself in. To make sure that doesn’t happen, make sure to think about the following aspects of the party well ahead of time. Better planning = less stress!
- Location – This is perhaps the most obvious factor to think about, but you would be surprised at just how many parents don’t, and then realize that their house or apartment just isn’t going to be a suitable environment to have a bunch of young, excited children running around in. You should strongly consider holding the party away from your home, as not only is it usually more enjoyable for the kids, but you get to come back to a home that’s clean and tidy as well!
- Theme – It’s typically a great idea to base birthday parties around a theme, particularly for young children. Think about your child’s interests and select a theme that reflects those interests. You should decide on this fairly early on, as many of the other elements of a birthday party will be influenced by the theme, such as the decor, the cake and the invitations. Animal themed birthday parties usually go down well and we’ve seen our fair share of dinosaur themed ones too!
- Entertainment – Young child unfortunately don’t have long attention spans usually, and so it becomes important to plan enough entertainment to keep them happy for the duration of the party. That could mean hiring a professional, or you may know a few party tricks yourself. Whatever you decide, make sure you have enough activities planned; a bored child is an unhappy child!
- Food – The last of the “big four,” it’s important to think about the food carefully. Do any of the children that will attend have any allergies? Are there going to be parents that stay during the party? What foods does your child like? These are all questions that will influence your catering choices. You also need to give the choice of cake a lot of thought, since at a young age, the cake is often seen as the focal point of birthday parties. Get your child involved in the selection process to make sure it’s smiles all round on the big day!
There’s obviously a lot more to planning birthday parties than the elements we’ve discussed here, but if you take care of these aspects, the rest often falls into place.
